Results of original scientific research in the multifaceted field of mineral sciences covering mineralogy, petrology, crystallography, geochemistry, economic geology, isotope mineralogy, petrography, petrogenesis, mineral chemistry, hydrochemistry, and related disciplines are published. Review articles, technical reports, reports of scientific events and short notes are also considered for publication.

Aims & Scope

The primary aim of the AMP is to publicize and highlight the important scientific and technological developments pertaining to mineral sciences that have bearing on socio-economic conditions of the people in general and the people of Pakistan in particular. It publishes research articles, review articles, short communications, as well as reports that have contributory geoscientific descriptions, discoveries, and innovations, not only for creating understanding of the contemporary issues and challenges but also for stimulating future strategic plans for the development of mineral sector.

Only articles not previously published and not about to be published, wholly or in part, in either Pakistani or foreign journals, are considered for publication. Publication is subject to the discretion of the Editor.

History

The Centre of Excellence in Mineralogy publishes the journal “Acta Mineralogica Pakistanica (AMP)” (ISSN 0257-3660) for disseminating the results of relevant research activities of the CEM and other institutions. It was initiated by Professor Dr. Zulfiqar Ahmed in 1985. It was based primarily on the research work carried out by its faculty and students, but later the scientific work of other eminent scientists and geoscientists of repute on topics of mineral-geological sciences with direct or indirect bearing on the geology and mineral resources of Pakistan were also included. Thirteen volumes of AMP have been published from 1985 to 2002 with two gaps, 1989-90 and 1994-96 respectively, during which the journal could not be published due to unavoidable technical reasons. Similarly, due to the departure of Editor of AMP on long leave in 2002, the publication could not be continued. The AMP is being revived again and soon will continue its regular publication. The number of papers published in the journal are summarized in the table.
